Wood Recital Hall at VCM
Robin and Winifred Wood Recital Hall, Victoria Conservatory of Music · 900 Johnson Street, Victoria, BC · 100 seated

A hundred seats, a stage nine feet deep and thirty wide, and walls that fold in and out in a zig-zag an acoustician would recognise before an architect would. The Conservatory's small hall was built for solo recitals and student juries, and its ordinary week is scales, lectures and rehearsal.
For a few days each November it becomes something else. NeuzTec has worked here since 2022, and the room has carried the festival's quadraphonic system in every edition since: four corners, the audience inside the square rather than in front of it. Walls shaped to flatter a cello serve a diffuse four-channel field just as well, and the stained glass along one side colours the light for the afternoon sets.
It is the smallest room on this page and the one the festival has used most.
